The brown chickpea (also known as Desi or Kala Chana) is a smaller version of the regular pale yellow chickpea. It has brown skin but remains yellow underneath. Chickpeas are wholesome foods as they are a good source of protein, carbohydrates and fibre. They also contain vitamin K, folate, phosphorus, zinc, copper, manganese, choline, and selenium and exceptional levels of iron, vitamin B-6, and magnesium.
